The Jezabels crack US College Radio
Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 12:58PM Sydney quartet The Jezabels have been making a name for themselves locally of late, with performances over the summer, at the Big Day Out, Festival Of The Sun, Pyramid Rock Festival and on a national support tour for Canadian twins Tegan and Sara and Sparkadia. They did their own headline EP launches and supported Sydney singer songwriter Josh Pyke on his recent national tour.Community radio are all over tracks off their debut EP The Man Is Dead, that same enthusiasm has now translated to the American radio folk.
While the band have been working hard and winning fans in venues around the country, their people in the USA have been working hard to introduce the band to an American audience. Their hard work is paying off, The Jezabels hit #4 on the most added chart at US college radio last week and this week debuted on the CMJ top 200 at #118. Not a bad start for the indie kids in what is their first exposure in the USA.
The band have just started pre production for the next release that will be due in October 2009.
“While fundamentally an indie band, Disco Biscuit Love is a catchy pop-rock track worthy of commercial radio attention. Lead singer Hayley Mary’s vocals have drawn comparisons to Chrissie Hynde and PJ Harvey.”THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH
“This Sydney four-piece seem to be creating some buzz with their brand of dance-infused pop and if Disco Biscuit Love is anything to go by, then they should be a band to watch. While this is a song about pill popping, The Jezabels seem to give this more depth than the average attempts out there, and the vocals of Hayley M are standout amongst this bass-less group”DRUM MEDIA
"Expect this band to either get signed and get huge, or stay independent and get huge and rich. Fading away doesn’t look likely, either way. This has too many things going for it to wilt. Debuts don’t get much more impressive than this.”XPRESS MAGAZINE
